Summer is upon us! It’s been muggy, rainy, and just a wee bit hot in the Mid-Atlantic these past few weeks. As a native Texan I know that nothing compares to the 100 degree, 100% humidity summers of Houston, but like all things, hot is a relative term. I packed away the last of my boots and winter Ts earlier this month and have finally decided that I’m mentally ready for shorts.
Shorts are tricky. What’s cute when you’re 18-25 can sometimes be a bit…um…scary when you’re in your 30s. I finally bit the bullet and bought a few pairs for the summer and as always, I have a wishlist in mind.
You know I’m a fan of all things polka-dot, so naturally, I found myself obsessed with these little buggers.
I actually bought these and they are fantastic. Slouchy, cool, easy: They manage to hide the scary inner thigh while still looking classy and fun with a nice pair of flats or wedges. Love ’em with a bright T.
As always, Anthro does not disappoint. I am a fan of these kooky Ikat Shorts in yellow and magenta. It’s a fun contrast and if you’re going to wear color on your butt why not go big?
Coming up in Swelter Weather, Part 2: The search for the perfect tank.
I’ve been seeing this raglan pullover all over the fun-lady-fashion blogosphere lately and I am completely enamored with it. Yes, I know it is a sweatshirt, but it is just adorable here, here, and of course, here. The font makes me smile and inside every woman wearing heels is a lady who just wants to wear a cute pullover and leggings.

My friend April and I are on some freaky parallel fashion wavelength at the moment. We both recently purchased a pair of lil’ boots (although they were different ones) and today we both online-window-shopped during our lunch hour for a pair of polka-dot skinny jeans. I knew there was a good reason we’ve been friends all these years!
Perhaps it is because I am a child of the 90s but I love colored and printed denim. Case in point:
Do not try to tell me that these are all the same jeans. Seriously. Stop it. Notice the different in polka dot placement and size. Don’t even get me started about the color variation and fabric differences! I’m leaning towards the ones in the middle.
It butt dots don’t do it for you, maybe this pair of ombre skinnies will have you wishing for a new pair of colored denim.

And lastly, my floral obsession:
Megaflora Charlie Trousers
I have no idea how these would look in real life, but I willing to give Megaflora a chance.
I do not consider myself to be a preppy lady, but there’s something about cashmere that makes me want to slip on a pair of Coach loafers, pick up a Dooney & Bourke bag and drive off in my BMW to some WASPy hangout like Talbots or a polo match.
Of course it feels amazing on your skin, but cashmere has a lot more going for it than making you more grope-able. It’s just so effortless. A cashmere piece adds instant style (evidence displayed below).
My hair would look great if I was wearing this
Collection Cashmere Herringbone Sweater from J.Crew.
I feel like this is a rich person’s version of a track suit.
Cashmere Open Cardigan from Banana Republic.
This scarf makes me want a gimlet.
